4C Health aligns with elimination on non-compete clauses in Indiana
4C Health has taken the step of eliminating non-compete clauses from its executive and medical staff contracts. For the last several years, federal and state legislators have sought to eliminate such clauses but to date that has not fully occurred. Rather, limitations on a very small segment of physician contracts and non-compete clauses have been implemented at the state level. 4C Health has taken this the extra mile and eliminated them altogether.
Dr Carrie Cadwell, CEO, had this to say, “Why this policy shift? We have been examining this for quite some time and moving toward changes. We want our contract staff to be at 4C Health because they want to, they believe in our purpose, and are successful in their role. Further, most contract staff members have lived most of their life in our communities and surrounding areas. Non-compete clauses can create challenges in that regard for employee vitality and livelihood within our rural landscape. If we want Hoosiers to live and work rurally, we have to embrace policy shifts like eliminating non-compete clauses in all forms both in and outside of healthcare.
When asked if the current legislative session bill on non-competes is a factor, Cadwell responded, “Each session there has been some incremental movement toward elimination of non-competes for physicians but it has not gotten there yet and may or may not this year. Our choice to eliminate non-compete clauses for contract employees goes beyond physicians. And certainly we don’t need to wait on a new law to make a decision in the best interest of our contract employees and the rural communities we serve.”
